I was listening to my dad's Ipod and found this song.
I think the song is about a girl who thinks they could live there dream if they left their small town and the singer is trying to convince them not to leave because he loves her and doesn't want her to go. He thinks that life is fine in a small town and there is no need to live your dreams.

Some Driving Songs...

On CBC last weekend, they were talking about driving songs, and listeners called in and told them their favourite songs to listen to while driving. Well, I think one of my favourite songs to listen to while I am a passenger in a car that is driving, is "The Crane Wife Pt. 3" by the Decemberists. I think this is a great song to listen to while driving on the highway through the mountains at dusk, just as the sun is about to go behind the peaks, and then it's night. I don't know why, but if you imagine just the rhythm, melody and music part, and forget about the words, then it really fits in with the winding roads and the tall mountains around you. Off course, the words are great too, not that I can really make much sense of them....

This song that I'm about to post about is really inspirational. If you listen closely to the lyrics, K'Naan, the artist, seems to be telling a horror story from his past. Yes, that may be what it was, but he is really asking for help. K'Naan is from Somalia, and has now moved to Canada. His music talks about experiences, and it all seems very real, unlike some other rap artists.
The song is called Smile, which may sound kind of ironic. It's from K'Naan's first CD The Dusty Foot Philosopher, which I really encourage you to listen to, it's amazing.

This song is very interesting. First of all, I really don't like any other songs by this artist, and I almost hate any other Ska music. I don't know why, but I really like this song. This song is The Impression that I Get by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. I like the very catchy rhythm and interesting lyrics. Also, the topic of this song is very interesting to think about.
This is quite an old song, from 1997 (Ok, not old, but not exactly new either), but really catches my ear.

A new song that I've been listening to lately is Nine in the Afternoon by Panic! At the Disco. I like this song because it sounds very happy and up-beat. Also, the lyrics are very interesting, including the title of this post, "Losing the Feeling of Feeling Unique". It kind of seems like there are some hidden messages in the words that he sings in this song.
This song is from Panic! At the Disco's latest CD: Pretty. Odd.

Rock and Roll Without Sound

Last Monday me (Isaac) and Becca went to Latitude 53 art gallery in Edmonton where there is a very interesting exhibit going on there. It is all about rock music, but there is no sound. Here is a podcast of what we thought about the exhibit. I did say in the intro to the podcast that we talked to Allison Sivak who is president of the board at Latitude. Well, we did do that but I wasn't able to put it on the podcast. Sorry Allison!

Buck 65 is a Canadian rapper who creates amazing songs, at least I think so. Some of my favourite songs of his are Way Back When, Roses and Blue Jays and the song Wicked and Weird.
In Wicked and Weird, Buck 65 mixes clever lyrics with catchy rhythms so that you have to listen to the whole song.
To me I think that the song is a travel story kind of. As if he's running away from something or someone.

This may be a really good song, and it is, but the video that accompanies this song is even better.
I'm talking about the song "Just" by Radiohead.
I think that this song has a great meaning, if you watch the video, you'll understand. Once again, the video is more like a story, and as you listen to the song you read the story. The message in this story I think is very strong. It's that if one person does something a bit out of the ordinary, like lie down in the middle of the sidewalk, he is immediately labeled as mad, or crazy.

My Confusion Corner Commuters...

I'm blogger #2 for the Circle of Music.
I'll probably talk about a lot of music that no one who reads this blog will have ever heard of. This review is no different but I hope that those who read this will begin to like this band. I'm going to talk about a song called Civil Twilight by the Winnipeg band: The Weakerthans.
The opening line of this song: "My confusion corner commuters are cursing the cold away" talks about an intersection in Winnipeg that is known as "Confusion Corner" which actually is very confusing. I think that the imagery in this song is great and it feels like you are right in the bus that this song talks about. Many Weakerthans songs are really more like a story put to music and this is one of my favourites. In the "story" a bus driver has to go on the same route around the city, every day, and he has to pass by this house that something bad happened to him in every hour. But I wont give too much away.

I think that their song has a good beat and music. The lyrics of the song aren't as great as the tune but they are good. Over all it is a good song for anyone trying to catch some listening time on their ipod before bed time
